To Be, Or Not To Be (Spoken by Hamlet, Act 3 Scene 1)
To be, or not to be: that is the question:
Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune,
Or to take arms against a sea of troubles,
And by opposing end them? To die: to sleep;
No more; and by a sleep to say we end
The heart-ache and the thousand natural shocks
That flesh is heir to, 'tis a consummation
Devoutly to be wish'd. To die, to sleep;
To sleep: perchance to dream: ay, there's the rub;
For in that sleep of death what dreams may come
When we have shuffled off this mortal coil,
Must give us pause: there's the respect
That makes calamity of so long life;
For who would bear the whips and scorns of time,
The oppressor's wrong, the proud man's contumely,
The pangs of despised love, the law's delay,
The insolence of office and the spurns
That patient merit of the unworthy takes,
When he himself might his quietus make
With a bare bodkin? who would fardels bear,
To grunt and sweat under a weary life,
But that the dread of something after death,
The undiscover'd country from whose bourn
No traveller returns, puzzles the will
And makes us rather bear those ills we have
Than fly to others that we know not of?
Thus conscience does make cowards of us all;
And thus the native hue of resolution
Is sicklied o'er with the pale cast of thought,
And enterprises of great pith and moment
With this regard their currents turn awry,
And lose the name of action.--Soft you now!
The fair Ophelia! Nymph, in thy orisons
Be all my sins remember'd.

A Dream Within a Dream

by Edgar Allan Poe 1809–1849 Edgar Allan Poe
Take this kiss upon the brow!
And, in parting from you now,
Thus much let me avow —
You are not wrong, who deem
That my days have been a dream;
Yet if hope has flown away
In a night, or in a day,
In a vision, or in none,
Is it therefore the less gone
All that we see or seem
Is but a dream within a dream.

I stand amid the roar
Of a surf-tormented shore,
And I hold within my hand
Grains of the golden sand —
How few! yet how they creep
Through my fingers to the deep,
While I weep — while I weep!
O God! Can I not grasp
Them with a tighter clasp?
O God! can I not save
One from the pitiless wave?
Is all that we see or seem
But a dream within a dream?

dream excerpts

Edgar Allan Poe-
"A Dream"
In visions of the dark night
I have dreamed of joy departed-
But a waking dream of life and light
Hath left me broken-hearted.

Ah! what is not a dream by day
To him whose eyes are cast
On things around him with a ray
Turned back upon the past?

That holy dream- that holy dream,
While all the world were chiding,
Hath cheered me as a lovely beam
A lonely spirit guiding.

What though that light, thro' storm and night,
So trembled from afar-
What could there be more purely bright
In Truth's day-star?

Dialogue poem

Where did you go
I did not go anywhere
But I cannot find you
I am standing here with you
Where? I cannot see you
I am the air around you
But the air comes and goes
I am the sunlight that shines on you
What happens when there's no sun?
I will be here with you always

Communtiy Proposal

I was thinking about creating a survey about people's dreams. Questions might include; nightmares or good dreams, things that reoccur and how often does that happen. Can you remember most of your dreams, or is it just bits and pieces? Do your dreams make sense. Do they seem realistic or are they completely fantasy. Is anyone familiar like friends or family in your dreams? Can you ever idenitfy the overall message of the dreams or does it make no sense? What was your best dream/ your worst nightmare(open ended).

Story

Zack Salvo
Period G

Back in the summer of 98’ my friend Penny and I were taking our nightly stroll and through the fields when we came across a huge tree. Penny loved climbing trees, we would sit up on those trees till it got really dark and mama would keep calling me in for dinner, and Penny would always say “Boarist just stay a  little longer”. Whenever Penny would be upset we would go to that tree and just swing, I taught her how to swing with no hands. She was so impressed that i built that swing for us all by myself. My daddy taught me how to build things. That summer it would not stop raining, so Penny and I made a tree house. This tree house took us almost a whole two weeks cuz it was just us to carrying out all of our supplies and she didnt do much of the building. It was mostly just me that did it which is why it took so long. We sat up in our tree house when it would rain. It would always be thunderin’ and lightenin’ and it would scare Penny and she’d always ask me to hold her cause she was afraid of the storm. There was so many good times in that tree house and it was so much fun cuz we were the only ones that knew about it. We had a big blanket in our tree house we’d hide under that and tell stories. But as we started to get older we would go out less and less cuz Penny was busy with her boyfriend now. So i would be all lonely and sad in the house that we made together. It was just no fun to go there anymore so i stopped going for a while. But one day i went there to check on it an i saw Penny an her boyfriend there. This made me so mad cuz it was our spot not his. So when i saw him walkin home by himself i gave him a good talkin too and taught him a lesson. Which Penny got so mad at me for that, so she burnt down the house and we havent talked since. that was 2 years ago.

dreams

I chose to do dreams for my concept because when you look at any of the pictures there is so much going on. It isnt just focused on one thing there are many things going on and there are a lot of colors in the pictures too.
